What to Expect in a Therapy Session at Catalyst Psychology
Structured, Supportive, and Designed to Help Build Real Momentum
At Catalyst Psychology, therapy is more than just talk—it’s a focused, collaborative process designed to help you make meaningful change. Whether you’re an adult working to manage stress, anxiety, or sleep difficulties, or a teen navigating pressure, perfectionism, or attention challenges, each session fits into a bigger plan: the Catalyst Care Arc.
This arc isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a personalized, research-backed progression that guides you from understanding patterns to building and sustaining change. Most clients typically complete care in 15–30 sessions, depending on the goals. You’ll always know where you are in the process—and what’s coming next. Curious what therapy at Catalyst feels like? Let’s walk through your goals, challenges, and questions together.

Every Session Has a Plan— With Room to Pivot
Your therapist comes to each session with a plan rooted in your goals and the latest evidence-based tools, whether that’s CBT, ERP, CBT-I, or ACT. We’ll start with a check-in: What’s changed? What’s top of mind? If something urgent comes up, we’ll adapt. But in most sessions, we’ll introduce and practice a new skill or strategy that directly supports your progress.
01
A collaborative check-in to identify updates or shifts in focus
02
Introduction of a new skill, tool, or strategy aligned with your goals
03
In-session practice, reflection, and troubleshooting
04
Real-world application—how this tool fits your life, and how to navigate any barriers
05
A clear next step, so you leave with confidence and direction
For teens, this might mean learning how to manage anxious thoughts during a test, build better routines, or handle conflict without shutting down. For adults, it might mean breaking patterns that drain time and energy or learning how to respond to stress more effectively.
In every case, we want you to leave each session with something useful—something you can use, remember, and build on. Because when therapy works, it doesn’t just feel good in the moment. It sticks.

Comprehensive Initial
Evaluation
Your path to meaningful change begins with a comprehensive evaluation. This essential first step helps us fully understand your unique circumstances and design a personalized treatment plan just for you
During the first two sessions, we’ll explore your concerns, medical and psychological history, and personal goals for therapy as well as utilize validated questionnaires to help us identify patterns and key targets for our work together
The information gathered enables us to offer personalized recommendations that we then refine together to align with your preferences.

Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on the initial evaluation, we’ll recommend proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches for efficient results and lasting change.
Frequency
Once or twice weekly, depending on your needs and availability.
Length of Treatment
- CBT for Insomnia is typically completed in 6 to 10 sessions.
- Customized CBT care for other specialties typically involves 15 to 30 sessions, with many clients reporting meaningful change and progress towards their goals during that period.
- Your treatment length may vary based on your individual progress and the challenges you wish to address.
This range provides enough time to identify patterns, develop and practice new management strategies, and make meaningful progress towards your goals.
Catalyst works with clients to balance continued progress towards goals with the flexibility to meet life’s challenges as they arise and dedicate time in-session accordingly. This ensures that clients gain the tools they seek, meet the goals they set, and apply new learning to life in real-time.
What Influences Treatment Duration?
Treatment length is not one-size-fits-all. A variety of factors shape your therapy plan:
Treatment goals:
Clear and specific goals may require fewer sessions, while more complex treatment plans might take longer.
Progress and engagement
Actively participating in therapy and practicing new skills between sessions can accelerate progress.
New goals or adjustments
As you make progress towards your goals, you may identify new challenges or patterns to address, which could extend your treatment as we continue building on your successes.
Ongoing Support and Flexibility
Therapy is a collaborative process, and your progress will be regularly evaluated to ensure we are on the right track. We will work together to decide:
When to reduce the frequency of sessions as you begin to meet your goals.
Whether you would benefit from maintenance sessions or occasional check-ins to sustain your progress.
At Catalyst Psychology, we recognize that life can shift in unexpected ways. We’re here to provide the right level of care, whether that means a short-term solution or ongoing support.
